An Introduction to Jamdani Weaving
This course is a one day introduction to the UNESCO World Heritage technique of Jamdani weaving – a form of supplementary weft or tapestry weaving on a plain weave structure that has been woven for centuries in Dhaka. The original technique was woven on a sheer muslin known to be the finest cloth woven by human hand where geometric patterns are individually woven in.
During this workshop you’ll learn more about the heritage of this technique, how Majeda uses it in her designs before learning how to use a supplementary weft to create different effects on your own loom.
You will need your own 4 shaft loom and warping instructions will be sent out on booking. It would help if you are familiar with both twill and plain weave structures to get the most out of this workshop.
