If you have been spinning a little while, and have learnt how your wheel works and can get a reasonable ordinary yarn, then maybe now is the time to take your first venture into the wonderful world of fancy yarn (art yarns).
These yarns are anything but ordinary, and it would take many workshops to get through them all, but expert spinner and tutor Amanda Hannaford will introduce you to the easiest to master, and gives really good useable results really quickly.
We’ll start by blending fibres to get exciting batts and slivers, then core spinning those fibres to give light and airy textured yarns, and then spiral plying to get stable balanced yarns that are a pleasure to use in your knitting, crochet or weaving.
Once you have mastered the art of core-spinning it has lots of other uses besides spinning art batts, it can be used to keep colours intact in all those indie dyed braids and multi-striped mill tops and dyed locks. It is also useful for taming tricky short fibres. Spiral plying is the basis for other art yarns too.
We will send you the details of the equipment that you’ll need to bring in September.
We hope you’ll be inspired to join us for a day full of colour, texture and fun! To top it all off there will be a delicious lunch and plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits to keep both body and mind nourished.
