To kick off the new year we will be joining knitwear designer, Emma Vining to explore drawing on your knitting with cable stitches. Together we’ll knit a Little Leaf Cable Cowl together over four one-hour zoom sessions, learning the techniques to customise the cowl pattern with texture, twisted stitches and reverse side cables. You can use the recommended yarns, or yarn that you have in your stash.
Participants are invited to knit along as part of a supportive, friendly online group, or to knit the cowl at their own pace if preferred.
The four session dates are January 6th 2025, January 20th 2025, February 3rd 2025 and February 24th 2025
Participants will receive the Little Leaf Cable Cowl pattern before the first session. Emma will then introduce a new leaf stitch pattern at each session with charted and written instructions provided. These instructions are fully compatible with the Little Leaf Cable Cowl pattern allowing participants to mix and match their stitch patterns. The remainder of each session will include a demonstration of the relevant knitting techniques and a group discussion, with an opportunity to share progress and ask questions. A recording of each session will also be made available.
About the Little Leaf Cable Cowl (Requires 180m/ 196yd of aran weight yarn.)
The Little Leaf Cable Cowl is a quick-to-knit, neck warmer design which can be knitted with any aran/worsted weight yarn of at least 180m/196yds.The cowl is knitted with a leaf-inspired cable pattern and the two outer edges are framed with a four stitch cable edging. Three yarn-over buttonholes are worked after the final leaf repeat and the cowl is fastened with three buttons.
The leaf-inspired stitch pattern combines cables with garter stitch texture and is worked five times over the length of the cowl. These five repeats can be knitted in the same style throughout or use the new leaf stitch patterns from each week’s session to create a unique combination of leaf designs for your cowl. If you wish to try each new stitch pattern separately as well as knitting a cowl, please allow additional yarn.
To knit the little leaf cowl you’ll need 180m/196yds of aran wool and a cable needle and a pair of 5mm (UK 6/US 8) and 5.5mm (UK 5/US 9) needles. The cowl shown is knitted with 1 x 100g skein of Eden Cottage Yarns Keld Aran. Full details of equipment needed will be sent on booking.
