An online talk from Lydia Needle – Textile Art Eco Activist.
January 14 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm GMT£13.50
At The Loom Shed, we are constantly examining how our textile practices and textile purchases impact the planet. This is how Lydia Needle came to our attention, first with her FIFTY BEES project, then looking at soil, insects, the decomposition and acquisition of fabrics.
Lydia is a Somerset based artist and art eco-activist; a maker of gentle protest works. She uses waste, ecologically sound or vintage textiles fibres, yarns, and fabric to create dialogue about the environmental impact of textiles, its human costs and the climate emergency. Techniques include needle felting, stitch and paper making to create the work needed to convey the concept.
Lydia is a member of Seam Collective, and Lead Artist and Curator of the ongoing collaborative creative project called ‘FIFTY BEES: The Interconnectedness of All Things’. This project started in 2017, using art to concentrate attention on the status of the British bee population and just how endangered it is. As well as creating 50 bee’s per exhibition, she works with artists she has selected who make work in response to a certain bee in a wide variety of mediums.
During this online talk, Lydia will discuss her work, mending, the bees, soil and sustainability, as well as her deep love of textiles and collaborative working.
