Mix ‘n’ Match Mittens with Natalie In Stitches
We are delighted to welcome Natalie Warner to The Loom Shed. Natalie is a knitwear designer and fashion and textiles lecturer specialising in garment construction and pattern cutting
This online workshop is about designing or customising your very own cabled mittens. Using Natalie’s Honeycomb Mitts as a template, we’ll explore your design ideas and experiment with texture and surface pattern.
If you are a knitter looking to start exploring your design skills or adapting an existing pattern to add your own details, this is the workshop for you. Natalie will guide us through the process, from idea, to planning, to knitting swatches, right through to starting to knit your own pair of mittens. A great gift to yourself or a loved one.
The morning session is all about playtime: sketching, working through ideas, and beginning to form a picture of your finished mitts. You can bring your own visual inspiration as a starting point for design, use the example panels as prompts for developing your own ideas – or do both. It’s completely up to you.
We’ll bring this all together in the afternoon to draft a pattern, using the squared paper to create any charts needed, and start knitting our mitts. By the end of the day, you’ll be ready to start knitting some beautiful accessories in time for the colder weather.
This workshop will be hosted online using Zoom. We can work at your pace, taking plenty of time for refreshment breaks and lunch. We will also record the workshop, so you can watch it back when you need to for a fortnight after the event.
