Online talk The Witchcraft Series of Tapestries from Anne Jackson.
January 15 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm£12
Anne Jackson is a Devon-based tapestry weaver & textile artist of international renown.
Her works are always thought-provoking, visually arresting and occasionally humorous. Knotted tapestry is the medium she’s evolved, and through it she chooses to challenge the traditional, sometimes cosy & domestic reputation of textiles as an art form.
She weaves her knotted tapestries on a board rather than a loom, following a technique she has developed herself, using cotton, linen and synthetic yarns.
For The Loom Shed audience she will talk about her long term project ‘The Witchcraft Series’. Exhibited in Stroud and Bovey Tracey pre-pandemic, the series of tapestries uses historical texts and original illustrations to depict stories of individual women accused of witchcraft. Anne uses these to comment on ways we try to exert control over our world and our lives.
The idea of ‘the wicked witch’ prevails in our society to this day, and Anne’s work questions the power of the myth, and the resulting social injustice towards women.
A perfect talk for winter, just as the sun is setting. Curl up on the sofa and join us for a thought-provoking talk.
