Natural dyes are so much more than beige and yellow and every colour produced before 1856 came from a natural source. Fast, vibrant and almost magical in their transformation from flower, root, branch or insect to a beautiful and seemingly unrelated colour on fabric, the excitement has never left me.
I have been involved with natural dyeing, spinning and weaving for the past 40 years. My passions are natural fibres, natural colours and environmental concerns. I have taught all three disciplines for 30 years both in the UK and overseas. As well as being a practical dyer, I enjoy research both under my own steam and with colleagues. I am co-author of Creative Spinning, with Alison Daykin, and have contributed to various textile publications over the years.
I am a member of Devon Guild of Craftsmen and the Society of Dyers and Colourists.
