This was our first natural dye symposium without the one and only Susan Dye.
We shared this tribute at the end of the day on Saturday and wanted to share it with our community.
Our natural dye symposiums would not have got off the ground without Susan (and Ashley too) cheering and supporting us, either by being a speaker, suggesting topics and speakers, and generally supporting the tech as we ventured into live and online.
Thank you Susan. You are very much missed.
Thanks to Brian Bond for putting the slides together that you see here.
This from the Nature’s Rainbow Facebook post from Ashley, Louise Drosdzol and Tracy Ballard – you may wish to contribute in memory of Susan
Join us in contributing to a quilt to commemorate Susan
Many of us have a special memory of Susan as mentor, friend, educator, sister…
Please join in creating a piece of work that represents our experience of her or is inspired by her that can be captured and used as an aide memoir forever.
We don’t want it to be a big commitment, but something small that is manageable as part of our busy lives.
If you would like to join us in celebrating her from anywhere in the world please make a fabric square that we can stich together to Make a quilt.
Louise Drosdzol will need to receive the squares by 31st March 2025. Please Email her for the address to send them to louise.drosdzol@gmail.com
The quilt will be displayed at the Celebration of her life on Sunday 18th May 2025 at the Sadie Center in Letchworth.
Specifications for the square:
20cm x 20cm including a 2cm stich allowance.
So the decorated area should be 18cm x 18cm.
Please use a flexible piece of natural fabric that can be sewn on a domestic sewing machine – not too thick
Naturally dyed, printed, woven, botanically printed, embroidered, needle felted, appliqued, batik, shibori, tie-dyed, any textile art will be great.
Please use text, images, patterns – Whatever you want to commemorate Susan with.
