Back in April we hosted our first online talk day – A Day of West Country Weavers.

We recently got back in touch with Jilly Edwards and Fiona Sperryn to see what they had been up to since they talked us with their work and events.

They have certainly been busy.

Bristol based Tapestry Artist Jilly Edwards

‘Through the things like Artist Support Pledge & Instagram, and then getting used to zoom, I would have felt much more isolated, and I’m so grateful to all the people who I’ve been contacted by through these new ways.
One gallery that followed me through the lockdown from early 2021 was Gallery 57 in Arundel, West Sussex and in June I had my new works successfully exhibited through them. Then 8 Holland Street contacted me and they have some work in their London, Mells galleries & soon to open in Bath!
Recently I’ve been shortlisted for the Kate Derum Award at the Australian Tapestry Workshop in Melbourne. This is an bi-annual award for international miniature woven tapestry.
I published with the designers drme_studio / jump north publishers a new book called Yellows & Pinks all about the work from my time at the Drawing Project at Trowbridge just prior to the lockdown
This is NOW I’m weaving a large tapestry 145 x 145cm this is to be part of my submission to the RWA (Royal West Academy)  as I’ve been selected to submit new works for acceptance as an Academician in September 2022′
We wish Jilly all the best with the Kate Derum Award announcement next Thursday 28th October.

Bodmin Moor Based Artist, Weaver and Designer Fiona Sperryn

Since the day of talks in April, Fiona has been part of The Time-Lapse exhibition at the Royal Cornwall Museum in Truro. It was the first group exhibition for Design-Nation’s Devon and Cornwall regional cluster, and features artists, designers and makers of jewellery, ceramics, glass, sculptural silverware, wearable art, film and textiles.
In early October, Fiona was selected to be part of Design-Nation’s Showcase for London Craft Week. She was one of 25 multi-talented artists sharing their most recent work, exemplifying excellence in craft in a wide range of disciplines. The recordings of these events are available to watch here
It’s great to see the work of such talented makers – Thanks to them both for being part of The Loom Shed Community.
